CNPC to raise shale gas production in southwestern China up to 10 billion cubic meters throughout 2020

Almaty. February 2. Silkroadnews – China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) plans to raise shale gas production in the southern part of Sichuan Province (Southwest China) from 2.3 billion cubic meters to 10 billion cubic meters per year throughout 2020, “Xinhua” agency says.

“Currently the works are carried out to get ready for production raise in the province, including the new production facilities development”, the company’s officials reported.

Following 11 months of 2016 China’s gas production volume amounted to 121.1 billion cubic meters.

Despite the production growth rates the Chinese authorities intend to raise natural gas imports. Earlier, CNPC spokesman said by 2030 China may increase imports of gas to 190-270 billion cubic meters per year. In 2015 China imported 53 billion cubic meters of gas.
