Construction of a new aluminum smelter was discussed in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan

Almaty. August 20. Silkroadnews - New aluminum smelter will be built in Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran, the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG) on Wednesday.
This issue was the main topic of discussion at the meeting, which was held on Monday in the administrative center of the province of Khuzestan, Ahvaz city, with the participation of the provincial governor Abdulhasan Muktadai, heads of local authorities and representatives of the business community and the private sector.
According to the governor of Khuzestan, the construction of a new aluminum smelter will be in Masjid Sulaimon by the state program on socio-economic development of the country, which will bring this town out of the economic impasse and end to its backwardness. He noted that the implementation of this project, along with the construction of a petrochemical plant and the airport will lay a solid foundation of economic development of the city and the surrounding settlements.
Addressing the meeting, the vice-governor of the province of Khuzestan Umid Hojjati stressed that the aluminum plant will be built next to the petrochemical industries in Masjid Sulaimon for reasons of economic expediency. He added that the development of both projects considered important benefits of ready access to road and rail.
It is planned that the new aluminum plant will produce up to 350 thousand tonnes of aluminum per year. It will be built in two stages with a production capacity of 175 thousand tons per year each. In total, the plant is expected to accommodate 328 melting furnaces.
In addition, in Masjid Sulaimon will be constructed power plant having a capacity of 468 MW and with an option to increase this figure to 1 thousand MW.
