Beijing. Jul 24. Silkroadnews - China’s action plan to control air pollution has generated great effect in terms of public health, a recent research showed, People’s Daily reported.
In 2013, China issue the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan, and last year the country has fulfilled all the major tasks set.
Researchers from the Peking University’s School of Public Health have analyzed national air quality monitoring data and mortality monitoring in 74 Chinese cities from 2013 to 2017.
The result showed that the average annual concentrations of PM2.5, PM10 and sulfur dioxide decreased by 33.3%, 27.8% and 54.1% respectively in 74 cities between 2013 and 2017
In 2017, there were 47,000 fewer deaths and 710,000 fewer years of life lost attributable to air pollution in the 74 cities than those in 2013, a substantial improvement for public health, the report reads.
The research, published in the journal Lancet Planetary Health, also showed the fight against ozone and nitrogen dioxide emissions should be strengthened in China.
In July, China issued a three-year action plan to combat air pollution. According to the plan, the quality of air in China should significantly improve over the next three years.
