Beijing. March 16. Silkroadnews - Having examined the application after serving one-third of the term according to the current legislation the Kapshagai City Court has refused to change a measure of restraint applied in relation to KazTAG General Director Asset Matayev, the KazTAG agency journalist reports.
The court has not taken into account the fact that Mr. Matayev was granted a number of rewards and positive characteristics on behavior, had no disciplinary records and does not need permanent monitoring by the correctional staff. The measures he takes to pay the damages have not been taken into account as well.
The defense team has brought the court’s attention to a number of letters of guarantee of media agencies ready to recruit him to start working.
To remind, on October 3, 2016, journalist Asset Matayev was sentenced to five years in prison for alleged fraud. A number of international journalistic and human rights organizations considered the verdict politically motivated.
