Almaty. October 20. Silkroadnews - CSTO Secretary General expects Taliban and IS to increase their activities on the borders of Tajikistan by spring, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) said on Friday.
The CSTO warns, there might be an increase in the terrorist threat from the north of Afghanistan, where about 7,000 Taliban fighters and the Islamic State have gathered, in the coming spring, the CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov said at the opening of the international youth forum of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Belgrade.
According to him, the CSTO countries, including Tajikistan, should be ready to repel the threat of militants’ invasion from the territory of Afghanistan. The Secretary General expressed confidence that in the coming months the threat would not be expected to escalate due to climatic conditions preventing military operations in the mountains, but in the spring of 2018, it is necessary to be ready to repel possible attacks of the militants in the border areas of Tajikistan.
