“Dar-ul-Aman” palace will be restored in Afghanistan to attract tourists

Almaty. June 2. Silkroadnews – The ceremonial opening of Dar-ul-Aman palace restoration works has been held in Kabul with the participation of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reported on Wednesday.

“The Dar-ul-Aman project is not only a grand plan to restore the country’s past glory, but like any other urban object it shall be kept in order and repaired duly,” the Afghan president said.

According to Ashraf Ghani, the funding is being carried out from the state budget.

$16-million worth project was approved by the cabinet this February on the initiative of the Ministry of Urban Development of Afghanistan. In accordance with the presidential decree the experts developed a five-stages-project.

The reconstruction of the palace will contribute to attract foreign tourists and preserve Afghanistan’s cultural heritage. As soon as the restoration works are completed the palace will also host special ceremonies of the national level and serve as a museum.

The palace is located on the south-west outskirts of Kabul; it was built in the mid of 1920-s by a group of German architects during the reign of Amanullah Khan.
