Delayed parliamentary elections in Afghanistan will be held in October

Almaty. January 19. Silkroadnews – Afghanistan will hold its delayed parliamentary elections in October. The election commission chief Ahmad Yousuf Nuristani told reporters, “Afghanistan today” reports.
“The parliamentary election and district council polls will be held on time if the government provides the necessary budget, security for candidates, electoral workers and polling centers”, said the publication with reference to A.Nuristani.
Parliament’s five-year term expired last June. Yet the polls were postponed amid security issue within the country and concerns over whether the vote could be fair and transparent after a disputed presidential election in 2014. In 2015 President Ashraf Ghani approved a decree extending the assembly’s mandate until elections were feasible.
It should be noted that earlier the country had reached an agreement on electoral reform as a prerequisite condition for any future elections. However, the solution of this issue has not got the active support, as the political parties still cannot arrive at a decision who should become the head of the reform commission, “Afghanistan today” says.
Last year the international organizations have interrupted funding the project on the electoral institutions reform in Afghanistan.
