Draft law “On Glacier Protection” passed by Kyrgyz Parliament

Bishkek. April 23. Silkroadnews – Kyrgyz MPs passed the law “On Glacier Protection”. The document predisposes creation of glacier data base. The need for such a database has been obvious for quite some time now. Those are glaciers are practically the only source of drinking water not only for Kyrgyzstan, but also for the rest of Central Asia.
About 4% of Kyrgyzstan’s territory is occupied with glaciers. There are over 6 000 glaciers in the country, but no one has been tracking condition of those glaciers for a while now.
