Economic development could put an end to drug production in Afghanistan, Tajik expert believes

Almaty. September 22. Silkroadnews – Afghanistan's economy recovery can put an end to the production of drugs in the country, Tajik drug control chief Sherkhon Salimzoda hopes.

«Today Afghanistan implements numerous projects for the development of the economy, especially in agriculture. Tajikistan hopes that alternative crops and economic growth will help eliminate drug production in Afghanistan», TajikTA quotes S. Salimzoda speaking at the international high-level conference «Defining geostrategic challenges to support development of the legal economy in Afghanistan in Transformation decade».

He also added, Tajikistan is interested to get neighboring Afghanistan returning to normal life.

«In case the country resolves the drug control issue such solution's consequences will have a positive impact on the drug situation not only in Tajikistan but also all over the Eurasian continent», he stressed.
