EEU and Vietnam discussed possibility of mutual supplies of seafood and meat products

Almaty. June 30. Silkroadnews – Moscow hosted the first meeting of the joint committee within the framework of the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and Vietnam, press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reported.
“We agreed on the work of both sides’ authorized bodies to allow business taking advantage of the agreement to the full”, EEC trade minister Veronika Nikishina said.
She noted, both sides took all the necessary steps to ensure the preferential trade provision and have already started implementing the built-in agenda of the agreement. In particular, the producers of Kazakhstan and Russia are concerned about Vietnam’s intentions to impose restrictions, up to the ban, on chrysotile asbestos used in construction.
The parties agreed to continue this issue discussion and also arranged consultations of authorized veterinary services on granting permits to Vietnamese companies interested in seafood and fish products delivery to the EEU market, as well as meat and poultry producers from the EEU countries for deliveries to Vietnam.
Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, in his turn, noted, “when taking decisions, it is important to observe the principles of equality and transparency”.
As a result of the meeting, the parties approved action plan to design an electronic system for certification and verification of the origin of goods between the EEU member states and Vietnam for 2017-2018. Among the other things it also involves the conclusion of an international agreement necessary to launch such a system.
