Elections of the President of Uzbekistan to be held on December 4

Almaty. September 9. Silkroadnews – Elections of the President of Uzbekistan to be held on December 4, press service of Uzbekistan's Central Election Commission reported.

«According to art. 96, 117 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as art. 8 of the Law of Uzbekistan «On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan» and art. 5 and 9 of the Law «On the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan», the decision has been made to set December 4, 2016, Sunday, as a day of presidential elections in the Republic of Uzbekistan», the CEC statement says.

In this regard, the CEC said the election campaign officially begins on September 9.

All the activities related to preparing and holding the polls will be implemented by the CEC in an open and transparent way in full accordance with the law «On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan».

To remind, on September 2 Uzbekistan announced the death of President Islam Karimov after suffering a stroke. The first president of the republic, who ruled the country for over 26 years, was buried in his homeland in Samarkand on September 3.

Later Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has taken charge as the country's interim president.
Since 2003 S. Mirziyoyev served as the Prime Minister of the Republic. According to the results of the parliamentary elections in January 2015, he was re-appointed as the head of the government of Uzbekistan.
