Elections to the Parliament and the Council of Experts began in Iran
Almaty. February 26. Silkroadnews - Iran began to vote for the parliament and assembly of experts, IrTAG reports.
The publication reminds the Majlis deputy’s term of office in the Islamic Council is 4 years. At present the parliament includes 290 seats.
5 seats of the parliament are granted to the religious minorities. Zoroastrians and Jews choose one deputy each, Assyrians and Chaldeans select one deputy together, Armenians and Christians of north and south also elect one deputy each.
The Iranians elections are carried out by the Ministry of Interior.
To become a candidate for election in the Islamic Republic a candidate shall first be prequalified by the Guardian Council of the Constitution, the supervisory authority reporting to the spiritual leader of Iran directly.
To have a voting right in Iran a citizen shall be older than 18 years.
In case a candidate for deputy receive 2/3 of the votes, he shall be deemed elected, otherwise a second vote shall be conducted. The winner is the candidate who scored the highest number of votes. The second round of parliamentary elections shall be held within one month after the date of the primary vote.
The election results can be made public in 48-72 hours after the voting day.
