Electricity consumption in China increased 11.4% in May

Beijing. June 18. Silkroadnews - Electricity consumption in China increased 11.4% year-on-year to 553 billion kilowatt-hours last month, Xinhua reports.
According to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), electricity consumption in May this year was 6.4 percentage points higher than in May last year, in part because the weather last month was unusually hot.
In the first five months, energy consumption increased 9.8% to 2.7 trillion kilowatt-hours.
Electricity consumption by the services sector increased 15.1% over the five-month period, electricity consumption in residential houses grew 13.9%, and in the agricultural sector - by 10.6%. Electricity consumption in the industrial sector grew 7.7%.
Electricity production rose 8.5% in January-May, up from 7.7% in the first four months.
In May alone, electricity generation amounted to 544.33 billion kilowatt hours, which is 9.8% more than in the previous year.
Industrial output remained stable last month, expanding 6.8% year-on-year. The growth was slower than the 7% growth in the previous month, though still higher compared to the 6% increase in March.
