Warsaw. June 27. Silkroadnews - Electronic cigarettes and snus can not be equated to tobacco products by the level of injury, believes professor of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Gerry Stimson, reports KazTAG.
"The World Health Organization estimates electronic cigarettes and snus dangerous as other tobacco products, and wants to spread an international convention of tobacco products on them. This is a mockery of all those who are using electronic cigarette trying to stop smoking"- said in a briefing G.Stimson before the Global Forum on nicotine on Friday.
He explained that the risk from the use of electronic cigarettes is 500 times lower than from smoking.
According to G.Stimson, there is no reason for a ban of electronic cigarettes in public places.
G.Stimson noted that electronic cigarettes and snus are addictive.
"They contain nicotine, it is addictive. But is this a problem? Dependence on nicotine is not much different from dependence on caffeine when you drink too much coffee. It is rather a psychological problem, not a medical"- he added.
In turn, the expert of the Contrafactual Consulting company, Clive Bates said that electronic cigarettes are an alternative for pregnant women, even if they are not able to quit smoking.
In addition, he noted that electronic cigarettes should be cheaper than usual.
According to a member of the Polish Association of Science Journalists Miroslav Dvornichak, the quality of electronic cigarettes should have a serious control.
In turn, Professor of the Institute of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health Andrey Sobchak said that the most dangerous is to buy electronic cigarettes via the Internet.
