EU supports security of Uzbekistan’s borders

Beijing. February 22. Silkroadnews - On February 21-23, 2018, Tashkent hosts a regular national seminar within the framework of the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA), funded by the European Union, the Uzbek Telegraph Agency (UzTAG) reports.
As the program press service informs, this time the seminar is devoted to the technology of identification and profiling of foreign terrorists.
Expert from the EU and 16 law enforcement officers from Uzbekistan will work to improve existing mechanisms to identify and profile foreign terrorists and discuss issues on strengthening cooperation and interaction among the departments involved.
During the seminar, the experts will share best practices on the issues raised, determine the major actions and develop recommendations for improving the methodology for identifying and profiling foreign terrorists at the checkpoint, and discuss additional practical steps by national agencies to implement the recommendations of the UN Security Council in countering violent extremism.
To remind, the BOMCA program was launched in Central Asia in 2003 and aimed to contribute to the development of cooperation between the Central Asian states in the border management. In 2003-2018 the European Union allocated more than 40.8 million euros for the program implementation, of which around 5 million euros were allocated for the 9th phase scheduled for 2015-2018.
