Beijing. February 27. Silkroadnews - Former Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd accused Turnbull’s government of wrong policy towards China, “People’s Daily” newspaper reported.
“China has long sought to increase its international influence, both in Australia and around the world. Other foreign powers do this in Australia too. The question is not one of whether China is seeking to do so here. The real question is to what extent is it increasing; to what extent is it manageable while maintaining a normal, healthy, balanced bilateral relationship still capable of advancing the vast array of common interests we share, which I believe we can,” Rudd wrote in a publication in The Weekend Australian.
Rudd continued to accuse Turnbull of supporting McCarthyism in relation to China, and former Turnbull trade minister Andrew Robb also supported this view and urged the prime minister to soften his anti-Chinese rhetoric.
In an ABC News interview, first broadcasted on February 11, Rudd accused Turnbull of imitating Washington at a time when the relations between the US and China are “in a deeply fragile state.”
