For six months Tajikistan’s foreign debt reached almost $2.3 billion

Almaty. August 1. Silkroadnews – External debt of Tajikistan has increased to nearly $2.3 billion for 6 months, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA).

“Summarizing the results of six months of 2016 Tajikistan’s external debt has increased to 2 billion 276 million U.S. dollars, making for 35.9% of gross domestic product (GDP)”, Tajikistan’s Finance Minister Abdusalom Kurboniёn said at the press conference in Dushanbe.

According to him, such increase in foreign debt has been caused by implementation and development of credit on the previously signed agreements.

It is worth to note that as a result of 2015 the country’s external debt amounted to 2 billion 194.46 million U.S. dollars and made 27.9% of GDP with the threshold level of 40%. At the end of 2014 this ratio made 22.7% of GDP.

At the end of first six months of 2016 the state budget directed $81.051 million to serve the foreign debt, out of which $65.013 million was allocated to repay the principal amount and $16.038 million – to pay the interest.
