Four political parties to participate in presidential elections in Uzbekistan

Almaty. October 24. Silkroadnews – Four political parties are allowed to participate in the presidential elections to be held on December 4, 2016, in Uzbekistan.

According to the Central Election Commission, within the period prescribed the CEC will check and provide its opinion if the documents submitted comply with the requirements of the election legislation.

At present the working groups of the Central Election Commission that includes members of the Central Election Commission, representatives of public organizations and experts of the internal affairs and judicial bodies, began its activities to verify the correctness of the signature sheets.

As previously reported, UzLiDeP (Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan) nominated the acting head of state, Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as the party’s presidential candidate, “Milliy Tiklanish” nominated Deputy Speaker of the Legislative (lower) Chamber of Parliament Sarwar Otamuradov, and Hotamzhon Ketmonov and Narimon Umarov were nominated from the People’s democratic party of Uzbekistan and the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” (Justice) respectively.

To remind, according to the Constitution the early elections in Uzbekistan are carried out due to the death of President Islam Karimov on September 2, 2016, after suffering a stroke.

The election campaign began on September 9. President of Uzbekistan is elected for a term of five years.
