Fruit and vegetable production is 3 times higher than Domestic demand in Uzbekistan
Tashkent. June 9. Silkroadnews – Fruit and vegetable production in Uzbekistan is 3 times higher than the optimal domestic demand, as Uzbek President Islam Karimov informed.
“We are currently producing 16 mln tonnes of fruit and vegetables annually. We are producing nearly 300 kg of vegetables, 75 kg of potato and 44 kg of grapes per capita. This is approximately 3 times higher than the optimal consumption levels”, President Karimov said at the conference dedicated to the “main reserves for implementation of food programme in Uzbekistan”.
“This makes Uzbekistsan a reliable base for stable supply of fruits, vegetables and melons almost throughout the year”, President Karimov noticed.
Over 200 foreign delegates arrived at the Conference in Tashkent. They represent 37 countries and 15 international organisations. The Director-General of the UN Food and agriculture Organisation José Graziano da Silva took part in the Conference.
