Georgia and Afghanistan have agreed to intensify cooperation

Almaty. February 20. Silkroadnews – Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani agreed to intensify their states’ cooperation in the field of trade, economy and transport, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reported.

The parties emphasized, both states’ authorities will contribute to better use of the great potential of partnership between their private sectors.

Afghan President thanked the Prime Minister of Georgia for support rendered in security field.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Georgia has been participating in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan since November 2009. Originally 175 troops were involved as a part of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, in 2010 this number grew to 925, followed by 1500 militaries serving from autumn of 2012 till the end of 2014. Starting from January 2015 around 800 Georgian militaries serve in different parts of Afghanistan within the international mission “Resolute support”.
