Germany approved an extension of the mission in Afghanistan for another year
Almaty. November 17. Silkroadnews – German government has extended the mandate of the German troops contingent in Afghanistan until December 31, 2017, AfTAG reports.
The German authorities have agreed on this in just a few days after the explosion at the German consulate in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif, when six people got killed and about 120 people injured.
A contingent of German soldiers up to 980 militaries will continue their work within the framework of the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission; its tasks include consultations and training of the Afghan soldiers and police.
It is worth noting that the extension of the mandate must be authorized by the German parliament (Bundestag).
The NATO-led coalition completed its combat mission in Afghanistan on December 31, 2014. Starting from January 1, 2015, the alliance worked with a new, non-military mission composed of 12 thousand soldiers, whose tasks include training and counseling of the Afghan security forces.
