Glacial lakes of Central Asia do not have effective control, said Emergency Situations Ministry of Uzbekistan

Silkroadnews - At the moment, the state of glacial lakes in the mountains of Central Asia are without proper control of meteorologists of the region, which increases the risk of unpredictable flooding. This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan Komiljon Aripov, transmits UzTAG.
"Most attention require lakes located in the basins of mountainous frame of the Fergana Valley in the altitude range of 3,600 meters and above", - said K.Aripov during a press conference in Tashkent.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic, in the region located 187 glacial lakes, which indicates a high degree of danger and threat to the Valley, which converge the three states in the region - Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
"The danger posed by breakouts of mountain lakes, requires the establishment of long-term monitoring system status and conditions of the accumulation of water in them, as well as perform a number of methodological work", - said the deputy head of the Emergency Ministry of Uzbekistan.
Earlier, representatives of Uzbekistan made a proposal to their colleagues from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to carry out joint aerial surveys of glaciers for more accurate monitoring of their condition. The pace of decline in glaciers range from 0.2 to 1% per year. Due to the intensive melting, glacial lakes overflow, leading to mudflows.
