Almaty. August 4. Silkroadnews – Yesterday on August 3, Hassan Rouhani won the endorsement of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for his second term of president, Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reported.
The IRIB channel said, the ceremony, which is the first stage of the Iranian president’s inauguration, was opened in Tehran by the head of the Iranian Interior Ministry Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, who reported on the presidential elections held in May. After that, in the presence of high-ranking officials, the decree of the Supreme Leader of Iran was read out on endorsement of Rouhani as a president.
“I comply with the choice of the Iranian people, approve the results of the vote and appoint Hassan Rouhani the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran”, Khamenei’s decree said, as read out by his Chief of Staff Mohammadi Golpayegani.
After reading out the decree, Khamenei personally handed it to Rouhani.
The Supreme Leader of Iran named three major directions for the authorities to work in. First of all, Khamenei said, the new government should solve the problems of the country’s citizens. The second direction he called the expansion of foreign relations, providing assistance to other countries and benefiting from their assistance. In conclusion, Khamenei noted that Iran must firmly resist the desire for the hegemony of any countries. According to him, the desire for excellence characterizes the US the most.
The presidential elections were held in Iran on May 19. The authorities announced that President Hasan Rouhani have been re-elected for the second term, receiving 57% of the vote in the elections. His main rival, ex-Prosecutor General Ebrahim Raisi got around 38% of the vote.
The inauguration of an Iranian president consists of two parts to be held on different days: the first involves Khamenei’s formal endorsement, which takes place in the presence of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the heads of all the branches of power of the Islamic Republic, and representatives of the country’s military elite.
The second part is the oath-taking ceremony at the country’s parliament.
Within two weeks after the official appointment, the president has to submit a proposed list of ministers to the parliament for approval. The parliament will then have 10 days either to approve or reject the proposals.
