In Beijing the foreign ministers of the CICA member states identified new approaches to security in Asia

Almaty. April 28. Silkroadnews – In Beijing, Kazakhstan’s foreign minister Erlan Idrissov took part in the 5th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member states of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), press service of Kazakhstan’s ministry of foreign affairs reported.

“The Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping delivered a welcoming speech. During the meeting participants held a detailed exchange of views on topical issues of global and regional security, modern threats and challenges, CICA’s role and potential in maintaining peace and stability in Asia. Particular attention was paid to the future directions of cooperation within the CICA framework,” said a press release Kazakhstan’s ministry of foreign affairs posted at the website on Thursday.

According to the press service, in his speech the head of the Kazakhstani delegation said the world suffers a crisis of confidence between the global “players” caused by their interests’ polarity.

“Promiscuous use of economic sanctions results in additional financial and economic costs and increase in the social tension. The world stands on the verge of another arms race turn as the growth of the world’s defense expenditures shows,” the press service quoted E. Idrissov saying.

He also drew attention to the importance of the early adoption of the comprehensive UN convention against terrorism and creation of the global antiterrorist coalition (network) under the auspices of the UN as initiated by the President of Kazakhstan.

“Following the meeting we have adopted the declaration recorded the coordinated approaches of the member states on implementation of joint measures in five dimensions, according to the CICA confidence-building measures catalog,” the report notes.

On the same day E. Idrissov held talks with minister of foreign affairs of China Wang Yi. The sides discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral cooperation, forthcoming this year contacts at the highest levels and exchanged their opinions on a number of international and regional problems.

The minister also held working meetings with the heads of foreign ministries of Russia, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.

According to Kazakhstan’s ministry of foreign affairs, the event was attended by foreign ministers of 26 member states of the CICA, 8 delegations of observer countries and representatives of international organizations.
