Almaty. January 16. Silkroadnews - Iran may resume uranium enrichment unlimited in case of new sanctions of the West, reported Russian media. This was announced by the speaker of the Iranian Majlis (parliament), Ali Larijani, in a speech in Qom.
He stressed that Western countries "should avoid political bargaining in the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program".
Earlier, a spokesman of the Foreign Ministry of Iran Marziya Afham stated that Iran intends to take action if there is no fair agreement on its nuclear program.
However, when asked about the new package of sanctions against Iran, which is considered by legislators of the United States, Afham noted that "the US Congress uses inefficient tool, which are wrong".
Meanwhile, the US Senate agreed on the text of the bill providing for the introduction of new sanctions against Iran, and despite the objections of the Obama administration, the senators are going next week to begin discussing it. In particular, the Republican majority leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell planning to submit the document to the vote at the end of February or early March.
Document on additional sanctions against Iran was prepared by Republican Senator Mark Kirk and his fellow Democrat Robert Menendez last year, but did not receive the necessary support, since the majority of seats in the Senate belonged to the Democrats.
The bill also provides the extension of sanctions against Iran if it does not go to an agreement with the five permanent UN Security Council members and Germany on the reduction of its nuclear program. Provides that punitive measures against the Islamic Republic will be tightened in the case of failure of the negotiations, which should be completed by 30 June.
Prior to this period, the sanctions will not be imposed, but the US administration and its partners in the international "six" believe that in any case the adoption of this law will negatively affect the general atmosphere of discussion and difficult to achieve a final agreement with Tehran.
In addition to Bill Kirk-Menendez, the Senate is also preparing a document providing for mandatory ratification of any agreement to be concluded on Iran's nuclear program.
Recall that in accordance with the interim agreement of Geneva on November 24, 2013, Iran pledged to suspend uranium enrichment above 5% and to destroy existing stocks of nuclear materials to the degree of enrichment from 5 to 20%.
From 15 to 17 January this year in Geneva, the official delegations of Iran and US negotiators will hold a series of bilateral consultations on the Iranian nuclear program, and on January 18, will be held full-scale meeting between Iran and the "six" at the level of political directors.
