In Kyrgyzstan rapidly declining number of snow leopards

Almaty. October 23. Silkroadnews - In Kyrgyzstan, the number of snow leopards declining rapidly, reports KyrTAG referring to the director of the branch of NABU (Nature and biodiversity conservation union) in Kyrgyzstan Tolkunbek Asykulov.
According to him, the World Forum in 2013 with the participation of the heads and representatives of snow leopard countries, international organizations and environmental movements adopted a program for the conservation of the snow leopard population in the world.
"Today, in our country there are no more than 300 individuals, the forum has given impetus for snow leopard conservation, through the adoption of a global program for the conservation of the snow leopard", - he added.
As noted T.Asykulov, the program is designed for 7 years to 2020.
In turn, the expert work of the secretariat of a global program for the conservation of the snow leopard and its ecosystems Kiyal Alygulova noted that the country which have snow leopard, bear the responsibility for the preservation of the animal.
According to her, the problem of conservation of the leopards is complex and can not be solved only by the environmental agencies.
"To solve this problem requires the personal involvement of leaders of all the countries in the area for cross-border cooperation, the consolidation of international partners in the field of environment, public". - said K. Alygulova.
Recall, the natural habitat of the snow leopard covers 12 countries in Central, East and South Asia. Kyrgyzstan is located in the center of the global range, providing a strategically important ecological corridor between the northern and southern parts.
