In the Iranian city of Gonbad-Cavus, minor offenders will be punished reading
Almaty. 11 September. Silkroadnews - in the Iranian city of Gonbad-Cavus decided to punish minor offenders by reading books without depriving them from freedom, reported the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG).
"A local judge Qassem Nakizade issued a decree under which people convicted of minor offenses will be required to buy some books, read them, and submit to the court their views about read in writing. This way they completely avoid the prison",- said in a statement.
According to Q.Nakizade, this kind of "punishment" is a good alternative to imprisonment and will have "irreversible physical and psychological effects on the convicted person and his family". However, this can be applied only to minor offenses or criminal offenses of minor gravity.
In accordance with the decree, the convicted people must purchase and read 5 books from a list approved by the court. In addition, in preparing the presentation require extensive use of related to the topic quotations from Hadith (a collection of sayings) of the Prophet Muhammad. Author of the idea believe this makes the "punishment" a kind of educational test leading to spiritual self-perfection of a man.
It is reported that the books were approved by a group of local judges, and that thus purchased literature will be kept by the authorities for future offenders.
City Gonbad-Cavus, located in the northeastern province of Golestan, is inhabited mainly by ethnic Turkmen, who are adherents of Sunni Islam.
