International donors continue to finance the agricultural sector in Afghanistan
Almaty. November 11. Silkroadnews - US officials and the World Bank (WB) at the high-level meeting in Washington pledged to support Afghanistan's agricultural sector, which provides more than a third of gross domestic product, reported AfTAG.
The Afghan minister Asadullah Zamir met with senior representatives of the US Agency for International Development, the Department of State, the US Institute for Peace (USIP), US Department of Agriculture, the US Congress and the World Bank during his visit to the United States.
The donor community has recognized the agricultural sector in Afghanistan backbone of the economy and the key to growth for stability of the war-torn country.
The United States and the World Bank pledged to continue to fund the Afghan Ministry of Agriculture and helping them achieve their goal - food security and self-sufficiency in wheat by 2020.
Recall the Afghan agricultural sector employs more than 80% of the population and contributes to one-third of the country's GDP.
