Iran and Afghanistan have agreed to jointly combat terrorism and drug trafficking

Almaty. April 20. Silkroadnews - The presidents of Iran and Afghanistan Hassan Rouhani and Ashraf Ghani, reached agreements on the joint fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, reported Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
"Iran and Afghanistan will cooperate in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking. These topics we discussed during negotiations with Presidents of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani",- said H.Rouhani.
In turn, A.Ghani noted that "Afghanistan is ready to open a new chapter in relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran", stressing that "the terrorists are a kind of modern barbarians".
Leaders signed an agreement on strategic security which provide a number of joint measures to combat terrorism, intelligence sharing, cross-border cooperation, as well as measures to combat kidnapping for ransom.
Referring to the agreement on the fight against drug trafficking, the president of Iran said that Iran will help Afghan farmers to replace poppy cultivation to other crops.
The parties also agreed to register Afghan refugees currently living in Iran. As of early 2015, there were about 1 million people.
In addition, Iran and Afghanistan have agreed to cooperate in the development of transit transport infrastructure in order to increase cargo flows from Central Asia to the southern ports of Iran.
The parties also stipulated joint efforts to preserve the environment, including the restoration of wetlands and lakes in the Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchistan, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan.
