Almaty. January 26. Silkroadnews - Iran and Egypt resumed trade relations interrupted in 2012 after the international sanctions introduction, the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG) informs.
“With the lifting of the sanctions Egypt started to receive petrochemical products of enterprises operating in the Asalue field”, the publication says.
At the same time the general director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Ruhniddin Javadi said “Iran has not put any restrictions on the sale of crude oil and petroleum products in Egypt and any official request, if it comes, will be duly considered”.
He also expressed hope that the expansion of trade in oil and oil products with Egypt will contribute to improve political relations between two countries.
“Indeed, with the lifting of sanctions the trade relations between Iran and Egypt in the oil sector will expand. A crude oil will be exported to Europe in transit through the pipeline SUMED Suez-Mediterranean or via sea through the Suez Canal”, NIOC Director for International Affairs Mohsen Gamsari reported.
Diplomatic relations between Iran and Egypt were interrupted in 1980 by the initiative of Iran in response to the granting of asylum to the former Cairo Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and conducting peace talks with Israel in Egypt.
