Iran and Turkmenistan discussed the implementation of joint projects in the oil and gas industry

Almaty. January 27. Silkroadnews - Large-scale joint projects in the oil and gas sector were discussed at the meeting of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Iranian Ambassador Seyed Mohammad Ahmadi, reports Trend.
“During the meeting a special attention was paid to the possibility of expanding trade and economic ties as well as cooperation in transport and energy spheres, implementation of joint large-scale projects in the oil and gas industry in the processing of hydrocarbon resources,” a statement said.
During the exchange of opinions on the prospects of bilateral relations, the sides discussed the current priority issues of bilateral cooperation, and expressed mutual readiness to strengthen and build a full-scale partnership on the principles of mutual benefit, equality and goodwill.
Particular attention was paid to the development of bilateral relations on a multilateral basis, within the framework of international organizations, including the UN and its agencies.
Earlier it was reported that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, during his official visit to Turkmenistan in March 2015 said that Iran is ready to become a transit country for the transportation of Turkmen energy resources, particularly oil and gas, to third countries.
Currently, Iran receives Turkmen gas via several branches, the main one is the Korpeje-Kurt-Kui put into operation as of December 1995. Its capacity is extended to 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year with the potential to increase capacity further up to 14 billion cubic meters. Buyer of gas is the National Iranian Gas Export Company. In 2010, it opened an additional pipeline from Dovletabad-Serahs-Hangeran, which also has the potential to increase capacity. For Turkmen gas Iran partially pays with barter.
