Almaty. October 2. Silkroadnews - Iran has developed its own version of the American unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) RQ-170, informes the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG).
As the commander of the Air Force and the Military Space Forces, Corps 'Revolutionary Guards' (IRGC) Amir Ali Hajizadeh, an improved version of the UAV was designed and developed in the framework of a secret military program by specialists of defense complex. According to him, the new aircraft will be put into service by the end of this year. It will be able to perform both reconnaissance missions and bombing.
A.Hadzhizade reported that the Iranian version of the RQ-170 was prepared by reverse engineering, enabling local designers to reduce its size by 60% compared to its American original.
In addition, he said that the Americans had also planned to create a flying machine with the possibility of bombing, and have tried to implement on board some special device, however, the UAV was used exclusively for the United States intelligence operations. Iran also plans that the domestic UAV can successfully perform both functions.
As recalled by the agency, the American RQ-170 UAV was shot down over Iranian territory in 2011.
