Iran has put into operation the largest floating oil terminal Khaleej-e Fars
Almaty. February 4. Silkroadnews - National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has commissioned the largest in the Middle East, floating oil terminal, reported the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG) on Wednesday.
"Floating terminal "Khaleej-e Fars" ("Persian Gulf") is a giant oil tanker with a capacity of more than 2.2 million barrels of crude oil. It is intended to replace the floating terminal "Soren" which had been operating the past 13 years, as well as reduce the costs of transportation, loading and unloading and export of crude oil in a significant drop in prices for oil in the world",- says the publication.
Director of the continental shelf of the Iranian Oil Company (a division of NIOC) Said Hafez, noted that a new terminal, worth $300 million, will be used for pumping crude oil produced in offshore fields "Surush" and "Nowruz", with the aim of its futher exports.
He added that the pumping of oil from the mentioned fields has already begun, and every day is delivered more than 70 thousand barrels of crude oil to the terminal.
Meanwhile, S.Hafez informed that the operation of the floating terminal "Soren" will continue until NIOC takes a decision on its future.
Deposits "Surush" and "Nowruz" are located in the western part of the Persian Gulf, at the coasline south of Bushehr province.
