Almaty. August 7. Silkroadnews - Iran is seeking opportunities for cooperation with Azerbaijan on gas exports, reports Trend.
"We already have a gas contract with SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) on swap transactions, and the two sides are planning to expand cooperation in the future", - said the head of the National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC) Alireza Kamali.
According to him, the two countries are also negotiating on joint investment in natural gas exports.
A.Kamali noted that given the fact that Iran is planning to ramp up production over the next three years, it may soon increase gas swaps with Azerbaijan.
Currently Azerbaijan supplies to Iran about 1 million cubic meters of gas per day.
According to him, if imposed on Iran sanctions will be lifted, it will expand the country's access to a greater number of buyers and sellers of gas.
A.Kamali also said that gas exports to neighboring countries is a priority of Iran.
