Tehran. September 5. Silkroadnews - The Ministry of Energy of Iran has developed a special program, the implementation of which would achieve 100% electricity supply in rural areas of the country, reported the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG) on Thursday.
Director of the project for the electrification of rural areas of the Ministry of Energy of Iran Valiaddin Maslahati Sharabyani noted that the project involves the electrification of 1076 settlements, most of which are in remote areas of Iran.
According to him, currently electricity is produced to 55 207 thousand localities of the country, in about 13.3 thousand of which live no more than 20 families. Thus, the power is provided to 99.78% of the rural population of Iran. In this regard, the government is taking steps to increase this figure to 100%.
V.Sharabyani noted that the electrification of the above settlements will be at the expense of renewable energy sources, in particular through the fitting of solar power capacity of 1.5 MW. At the same time, he added that the realization of this project will require credit facilities of approximately $80 million.
