According to the official representative of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Behrouz Kamalvandi, Russia will begin construction of two new nuclear reactors in Iran next week.
In early December of this year, Russia and Iran (IRI) held a meeting, where they discussed the prospects of cooperation in the nuclear industry. The sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in construction in Iran of new nuclear reactors of Russian design.
Earlier, the head of "Rosatom" Sergey Kiriyenko said that full-scale work on the construction of new power units in Iran will begin in the autumn of 2015.
As reminds agency, Russia and Iran at the beginning of November 2014 in Moscow signed a package of agreements on the construction of eight nuclear reactors in Iran. In particular, a contract was signed for the construction of the second phase of the NPP "Bushehr", providing the construction of two nuclear units with the possibility of extension to four.
According to the agreement, the parties intend to build another four reactors at other sites, which to date has not been determined.
Financing the construction of the second and third blocks will be conducted at the expense of Iran.
