Iran proposed to develop recovery plan for Hamoun lakes on the border with Afghanistan

Almaty. October 10. Silkroadnews – Iran offers Germany and Afghanistan to develop a plan to protect and restore the Hamoun salt lakes group on the border with Afghanistan, AfTAG reports.

Vice-president of Iran Masoumeh Ebtekar reminded, Germany and Afghanistan established constructive cooperation with Afghanistan on many issues. In this regard she suggested to consider the state of the Hamoun salt lakes group within the framework of trilateral cooperation between Iran, Afghanistan and Germany and develop a plan to protect and restore the ecology of these lakes, which have been recently registered by the UNESCO as a biosphere reserve.

Vice-President of the German Parliament Claudia Roth has adopted proposal and said the issue is put under consideration.

Hamoun is a large group of lakes of varying degrees of mineralization (from fresh to salty) located on both sides of the border between Iran and Afghanistan with the Helmand, Farah Rud and Hash Rud rivers delta located within the Sistan Depression.
