Iran raised annual steel production nearly a quarter
Beijing. June 27. Silkroadnews - Over the first five months of 2018, Iran produced 10.14 million tons of crude steel, which is 24.25% more compared to the same period in 2017, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports.
According to the statistics released by the World Steel Association (WSA), China topped the list of steel producers with 369.859 million tons, Iran Daily reported, followed by Japan, India and the U.S. with 44.22 million, 44.12 million and 34.85 million tons respectively.
In May, Iran produced 2.01 million tons of crude steel - an increase of 3.33% compared with April.
Reportedly, in May the global steel production amounted to 154.86 million tons, which is a 4.7% more than in April.
WSA is the international trading body of the iron and steel industry. The association unites about 170 steel producers, including 17 of the world’s 20 largest metallurgical companies, national and regional steel industry associations and industry research institutes, and accounts for about 85% of the world steel production.
