Iran ramps up steel production

Beijing. June 19. Silkroadnews - Annual steel production in Iran has grown to 35 million tonnes per year, and for five years the total volume amounted to 200 million tonnes, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports referring to the country’s deputy minister of industries, mining and trade Jafar Sargini.
According to him, Iran’s steel production capacity has grown by 80 million tonnes over 5 years.
At the moment, Iran ranks the first in steel output among the Middle East countries, and the 14th in the world. In case of increasing the production of crude steel up to 55 million tonnes per year, as the deputy minister forecasts, the country will be able to rise by 7 points, from 14th to 7th place, IRNA notes.
