Almaty. February 27. Silkroadnews – Iran will acquire 950 tonnes of uranium concentrate from Kazakhstan over the next three years, Iranian news agency (IrTAG) reported.

“The purchase is supposed to happen within three years. 650 tonnes will enter the country in two consignments within two years and 300 tonnes will enter Iran in the third year and, after turning into uranium hexafluoride gas, will be sold back to Kazakhstan”, the agency quoted the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi’s saying.

In early February he said about 149 tonnes of uranium concentrate, known as “yellow cake”, expected to enter the country on February 7, though has not specified the provider country.

The relevant request for the purchase of uranium concentrate has also been sent to the secretariat of the commission monitoring the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
