Iran will apply to the international authorities to return the Central Bank assets
Almaty. April 25. Silkroadnews – Iran will appeal to the international authorities to return the assets of the country’s Central Bank the United States intends to confiscate, IrTAG informs.
“The presidential administration is concerned about the US Supreme Court’s decision on appropriation of the Iranian funds made in violation of international law. Iran will appeal to the international court to recover their funds,” said the statement by the administration of President of the Islamic Republic of Hassan Rouhani.
Having violated the international law, the United States undermine the principle of good faith laid down in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), thus, putting the implementation of the latter agreement signed by Iran and the “six” on July 14, 2015, in jeopardy, the document says.
The statement by the Iranian Presidential Administration stressed that “the United States Supreme Court’s decision stands in a sharp contradiction to the international law and infringes the inviolability of foreign government.”
“While considering the cases involving the other countries in the national courts, the United States apply the principle of extraterritoriality, which is illegal and making such courts’ verdicts invalid. Thus, the US courts violate the sovereign immunity of another state’s government,” the document says.
To remind on April 20 the US Supreme Court dismissed Iran’s appeal, having affirmed the decision by the US lower court on $2.65 billion compensation payment to be made by Iran to relatives of victims of terrorist attacks at the US Marine Corps barracks in Beirut in 1983. According to the court, the explosion was organized by the militants of the Lebanese Shiite movement “Hizbullah” with the active support of the Iranian officials. Payment of compensation is expected to be made at the expense of assets of the Iranian Central Bank stored in Citibank.
