Iran will start construction of the second nuclear power plant

Salehi pointed to the increasing demand for energy and the need to protect the environment, and stressed that, despite the number of accidents at nuclear power plants in the coming decades, nuclear power will continue to be in demand to provide the necessary energy of mankind. "In this regard to date, together with Russia we continue to work on the creation of nuclear power for the production of 2 thousand megawatts of electricity",- he said.
As recalled by the agency, the first nuclear power plant with capacity of 1 thousan MW was fully operational in the Iranian Bushehr this year. Construction of a second nuclear power plant with the same capacity will start in the same place no later than in 2 years.
According to the results of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran studies in 2021 Iran using nuclear energy should produce up to 10 thousand Megawatts of electricity, or approximately 12% of the total amount produced in that period country's electricity. At the same time, a study conducted in conjunction with the energy company "Tavanir" and other relevant organizations, have shown that the amount of required country's electricity would be about 120 thousand MW, of which at least 8 thousand MW must be produced at the plant of the country, concluded the head of Iran's nuclear program.
