Beijing. February 21. Silkroadnews - Iraq will not allow to use its land to harm Iran, Prime Minister of the Republic Heyder Al-Abadi said on Tuesday, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports citing Alsumaria TV.
He said Iraq will not allow anyone to use its territory to harm Iran, be it NATO or anyone else.
Earlier, an MP from State of Law Coalition of Iraq, Jasim Mohammed Jaafar, close to the prime minister’s office, said about the U.S. desire to expand the military presence on the border with Iran and pressure Washington exerted on al-Abadi to extend the NATO mission in the country.
As noted by TASS, in mid-February NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance started planning a mission to train the Iraqi army at the request of Baghdad and a US-led counter-terrorism coalition. At the same time, he stressed that it was a non-combat mission.
