It shall take $2 billion and 40 years to fully supply Tajikistan’s population with drinking water

Almaty. July 15. Silkroadnews – It shall take $2 billion and 40 years to fully supply Tajikistan’s population with drinking water, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported on Friday.

“To fully provide Tajikistan’s population with clean drinking water it shall take 30-40 years and $2 billion,” said the first deputy director of the State Unitary Enterprise “Housing and Communal Services” (HCS) Ravshan Tuychizoda.
According to him, out of this amount $1.7 billion is required for construction and reconstruction of water supply and sewerage infrastructure.

There are 4 thousand and 884 populated localities in Tajikistan, the total annual funding into the water supply filed does not exceed $54 million with account of grants, loans and state finances.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 2008-2020 “Water Security Plan” is currently being implemented. The program is realized in two pilot regions: Hamadoni and Penjikent. As of 2013 23 thousand citizens have received access to clean drinking water.

The population of Tajikistan is 8.5 million people.
