Japan allocates more than $2.2 million to strengthen Tajikistan’s border with Afghanistan
Almaty. March 9. Silkroadnews - Japan allocates more than $2.2 million to strengthen the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) repots.
“Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Tajikistan Takashi Kamada and Ashita Mittal, UNODC Regional Representative for Central Asia signed today in Dushanbe the exchange notes on the project to strengthen the protection of Tajikistan’s border with Afghanistan in the Khatlon region. To implement this project, the Japanese government will allocate 267 million Japanese yen (approximately $2 million 260 thousand) to UNODC representation office in Tajikistan,” - the publication says.
The project will focus on the modernization of certain checkpoints and the creation of four new border cooperation offices between the Tajik and Afghan militaries.
Infrastructure and potential of the Shaartuz border detachment will be significantly strengthened within the project, which also provides for the construction and supply of equipment of, at least, two border posts “Paivand” and “Hoshma” and the border post “Tagnob”, located along the “green” part on the Tajik-Afghan border.
