Japan and Kazakhstan to continue nuclear and thermonuclear research cooperation

Astana. June 6. Silkroadnews – “XX years of Kazakhstan-Japan scientific and technical cooperation in peaceful uses of Atomic Energy” workshop took place in Kazakh Kurchatov, where Semipalatinsk-21 polygon was once located. Prospects for further cooperation have been discussed, as KazTAG reports.
A number of agreements on cooperation in the areas of nuclear and thermonuclear research for the next 5 years were signed.
Some unique experimental studies were conducted by Kazakh experts in cooperation with their Japanese colleagues. For example, a research study on nuclear testing at Semipalatinsk polygon and health of local residents has been conducted in cooperation with Japanese REA (Radiation Effects Association), as Erlan Batyrbekov of Kazakh National Nuclear Centre informed.
Yoichi Fuji-ie of Tokyo Instite of Technology, who used to chair Japanese Atomic Energy Committee presented a paper at the workshop. The CEO of Marubeni Utility Services was also among the Japanese delegates.
