Japan will provide $3 million to build a new tunnel through Afghan Salang

Almaty. March 4. Silkroadnews - The Government of Japan has approved the allocation to Afghanistan grant of $3 million on the preparatory work for the construction of a new tunnel through the Salang, reported Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
Agreement on the reconstruction of strategically important Salang Tunnel was signed on Monday between the Japanese Ambassador to Afghanistan Hiroshi Takahashi and director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Afghanistan Thomas Panella.
The project is connected with the reconstruction of roads including tunnel through the Salang Pass.
The project will be carry out geotechnical investigation of a new tunnel, duplicating the Salang Tunnel. Transport corridor will connect the district of Jabal Ussaradzh Parwan province with the county Hindzhan Baghlan province, said the radio station "Salam Vatandar".
