Jirga of Borki demanded to reopen a Pakistani-Afghan border for trade
Beijing. May 14. Silkroadnews - The Borki tribe on the Pakistan-Afghan border near Kurram Agency has called for an emergency jirga, demanding the reopening of the border for trade, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
Speaking in the jirga, Malik Haji Nauroz Ali, Haji Kamal Hussain, Malik Islam Ali, Hazrat Gul and other participants said that the Borki border has been used for trade since the time when this territory was a British colony, the Pakistani edition of the Express Tribune reports. Moreover, the Borki tribe even offered to give 200-acre land to the state-owned National Logistics Cell (NLC) for free. However, NLC acquired disputed land and even forced to close the border of Borki, leaving the members of the tribe unemployed. The leader of the tribe Malik Haji Nauroz Ali said that the closure of the border with Afghanistan, which was used for trade for 400 years, was unfair on the Borki tribe, and the tribe will protest in case the border is not opened in the near future.
Malik Islam Ali stated, the NCL deliberately made efforts to create problems for the tribe for its own benefit. He also said, the financial destruction of the tribe is not a smart move, as the government must fulfill its duty.
Members of the tribe who have worked on the border for years, said the closure of the border left people on the brink of starvation.
Sajjad Hussain, a member of the Senate from Kurram Agency, told the media that the government must solve all these problems through negotiations to preserve peace among the tribes.
