Almaty. August 1. Silkroadnews – Joining the EEU does not remove the artificial barriers sometimes created by fraternal countries, Kyrgyzstan’s President Almazbek Atambayev said, KyrTAG reports.

The head of the state has noted that entering into integration association was driven by the principle “not to worsen a situation rather than to try to make it better”.

“Just three years ago we saw people climbing the fence of the White House, seizing the regional administration building, turning the electricity off. But if we had not joined the EEU … I remember vividly when our border with Kazakhstan was closed during a month and a half, a small child died because of that even. You’ve probably forgotten a lot; I vividly remember that all. We shall proceed from the realities of life. Even joining the EEU does not remove the artificial barriers sometimes created by fraternal countries. Kyrgyzstan’s interests are served by Kyrgyzstan only. And we shall proceed from this assumption, we must be realistic”, A. Atambaev said during the meeting with journalists in Cholpon-Ata on Monday.

The country’s head also emphasized that Kyrgyz people shall be ready to fight for their rights.

“But to do that we shall have some sort of legal base, not to let others to close the border for no reason. Now it is not that easy to establish a blockade for us, as we are a member to the EEU. Yet, we’d have to turn ourselves in, as only the people of Kyrgyzstan strike for the independent Kyrgyzstan”, president added.
