Kazakh Nuclear Power Station Construction expected to start in 2018

Astana. June 5. Silkroadnews – Nuclear Power Station construction is expected to start in 2018, as Kazakh Deputy Minister of Industry and new Technologies Bakhytzhan DJaksaliyev informed.
“If everything goes as planned, we can get to practical issues of Nuclear Power Station construction by 2018. We reckon …we are to lauch energy production at some capacity by 2023-2024”, Mister Dzhaksaliyev said during the Press Conference at National Nuclear Center in Kurchatov.
He says that after the decisions regarding nuclear power station construction are made, the territory around Kurchatov as well as around the lake Balkhash are to be inspected for project purposes up until 2018.
As reported earlier,on the 29th of May,  a bilateral memorandum was signed by the Chairman of the Board of “KazAtomProm” National Nuclear Company, Vladimir Shkolnik and the head of “RosAtom” Sergey Kirienko. The Nuclear Power Station construction predisposes installation of PWRs with 300-1200 megawatts capacity. The parties are also to cooperate when it comes to supplying the NPS with nuclear fuel. AS reported earlier, the fuel components are to be produced in Kazakhstan, but in cooperation with the Russian party.
